I was fascinated to find this web site. Jim Vanderbeck was my uncle. My father had always told me there was a book about Jim, but I never knew its name. So I was amazed to find this website, although it doesn't look as if it has been active recently. In any case, I will try to track down a copy of the book, now that I know its name.

Hi RON, John Callan here, as you may already know I've been a member of this site too; and initially surprised to see there hasn't been much activity too. If you've have had a chance to read some of my articles that I have posted you would know I have been acquinted with the Vanderbeck legacy since 1970, as the book Traplines North was a book that changed my life. You may have already read My story "Living the Dream". It was in 1984 that I had a chance to meet Jim. At the time he was in the hospital getting some treatment with one of his kidneys. In 1970 I too had a chance to meet and know a few people in the book. Joe Legarde, Emile Cote and the the Macki's who bought Northland Outfitters from Emile. Most recently over the past four years Russ and I were up in Nakina for its 85th Anniversery. Russ had never been up to Nakina so we went up the Beauty and I showed him the area where the Watch grave site was and we now know where one of Jim's Trapline cabin is, Thanks to Russ's GPS system. Since then I have been trying to get MAtt to get back to me because because I have an article I have been holding for over two years to put on ths site about the last few years of Lindsay 's(Jim's brother) Life. Mary Sue Jim's daughter who lives out in BC has been very coperative and we have been in touch with each other over these past few years too and have become good friends via email and face book. She has given the okay for the article as she has been my resource person.
