First, I am a new member to this board and have enjoyed reading the posts for about a year. It is about time I joined.
I am going to Nakina this summer and plan on spending some time on Waba lake. The pics and the signs on this forum should make it fairly easy to find the cabin site BUT it would be nice to have GPS coordinates if someone is willing to share via private message.
I have a good 4WD truck but it will be interesting to see if the logging road access on east side of the lake is still passable. Anyone been on it since 2009?
Has anyone located Joe Leake's cabin site in recent times?
For those of you who were on Waba, how was the fishing and what did you catch?
Thanks for the info.

I have not driven the road all the way to the winter cabin. I have walked the road for a couple of miles from the cabin back east and then south. Bring a chain saw. A new truck will not be knew when you leave due to the encroaching branches that will mar the paint job. I have attempted to find the Leake cabin site but was unsuccessful. No doubt the site is over grown way beyond what the Vanderbeck cabin site currently is. There are walleyes on the lake that can be caught by trolling spinner rigs and crawlers. There are of course big northern pike that will hit a sthingy. My largest walleye was 29 inches long.
Good luck!

Thanks WI trapper for the info. I am not necessarily looking to drive to the cabin site, but I would like to get to the lake from the east side. The only way to find out I guess is to try. I do plan on bringing a chainsaw and have a winch on my truck that I use with a buckle system to move logs off roads. You'd be surprised how much swiping of branches a paint job can take without showing wear. It's the stuff that doesn't move easy that will get ya.
I am planning on bringing a metal detector figuring some old nails, broken traps, etc. may help locate the Leake cabin. Given the age of the site, it may be hard to prove even if something is found in the right spot. I doubt by the descriptions in the book if much stuff would have been in there that would last this long. It still may be worth looking.
Thanks also for the info on the fish in the lake. That was my guess, just curious if someone could confirm.
