Hi ! My Name is Richard E. Hoyt . My Grandmother was Maude's sister. My Grandmother's maiden name was Helen Ellis and she was born in Plaster Rock NB Canada. I Made a trip to Canada with my grandparents back in 1947. I remember my Grandmother being worried about her sister but as I recall she died before we made the trip. We visited the cabin where here second husband lived and went sightseeing on the river with him. We had to take a two man push type railroad vehicle to get to the cabin.
My "e-mail" is: rhoyt91326@aol.com
ps: I have the book "trap lines North" which I've read at least three times.

Hi Richard It's good to hear from you. If you haven't been through web site yet, you will find some pictures of Maude's grave site in Nakina. The pictures were taken in 2008. We sure would like to hear any other stories you may have about your visit to Nakina in 1947. Anything you can tell us about Emile Cote would be a bonus! Thank you for taking the time to post on the web site. Russ

Dear Russ Kerr, I now live on the eastern end of Long Island NY in a town called East Hampton. I am 75 years old and I visited Canada in the summer of 1947 with my Grandparents as I mentioned before. I was 13 at the time but remember the trip very clearly. We spent most of our visit in Plaster Rock NB as my Grandmother had not been back since she left as a young woman to pursue a nursing career in the states. She had a childhood friend in Plaster Rock who lived right across the street from the Ellis homestead. My Grandfather had just retired from the Long Island Railroad as I believe he may have started working on the railroad in Canada . My Grandfather was from Perth just across the river from Plaster Rock. I have many post cards that they wrote to each other while he was still in Canada and Helen Ellis was in the states. They settled in a small town which is about three miles from where I am now which was also my home town while growing up. The town's name is Amagansett which is an Indian name meaning "place of good water". We took the trip to Nakina by railroad to a certain point and then they provided a pump type two man rig as the train didn't go to Emile and Maud's cabin. I remember the cabin being very basic with no electric and quite primitive . Emile was a very quiet and serious person but understandable after just losing his wife. I remember the trainmen stopped in the middle of nowhere and there was Emile waiting for us. Emile had an agreement with the railroad as they would drop off mail and food supplies to him. I don't know how he ordered things maybe some bag pick-off arrangement along the tracks. We really didn't visit the town as we spent the whole visit at the cabin. I'm enclosing a picture that Maud sent to my grandmother years ago. One shows writing stating a picture of James and Mary and the other a picture of my Grandmother (top picture) and one of James and Mary. Hope this is of some interest to you. I'm very interested in this project also. Maybe you can post this on the web site as others may also be interested. Thanks Richard E. Hoyt --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
